UnstFest travel disruption likely as Yell ferry service to reduce to single vessel

ANYONE planning to travel from the Shetland mainland to UnstFest tomorrow (Wednesday) looks set to face transport disruption as the Yell ferry service reduces to a single vessel.

Shetland Islands Council says this is due the unavailability of a qualified master for the Yell ferry Daggri.

The service will operate with a single vessel to the shift timetable on Wednesday, with bookings suspended. The council apologised for any inconvenience caused.

The Yell service will be busy this week as people head to Unst for the island’s annual summer festival.

The council’s bookings system shows how sailings from Yell to Unst have vehicle space unavailable on many daytime sailings.

The ferries to Unst are smaller than the ones which run to Yell.

UnstFest began on Monday and is due to finish on Sunday, with a range of family-friendly activities on offer.

The reduced service tomorrow is the latest in a string of disruptions on the Yell Sound ferry service, with the Dagalien for instance late in returning from dry dock earlier this summer before a recent issue with the Daggri‘s fast rescue boat winch.
