Sentence deferred for good behaviour

TWO LERWICK women have had sentence deferred for six months after admitting behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in Commercial Street.

Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Thursday that Claire Marie Antonio and Patricia Doyle got involved in an altercation with a young man in the early hours of 1 April. The man is subject of a separate prosecution for the same incident.

Antonio, 23, of Grostane, admitted the charge of threatening and abusive behaviour and shouting and swearing while 20-year-old Doyle, who lives at Nordvatn, admitted the same charge but with the addition of behaving aggressively.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank told the pair that if a lesson was to be learned from the incident, it was to stand back and think before acting rashly.

Doyle had no previous convictions and had never been in trouble, while the Sheriff noted that Antonio was no stranger to the court but was acting to move forward with her life and accepting professional help.

He deferred sentence until 29 January next year for both women to be of good behaviour.
