News / Lynda bounces back to win top Scottish table tennis title
SHETLAND table tennis star Lynda Flaws reclaimed the women’s singles title at the Scottish Championships in Perth on Saturday.
It is the third time she has won the title, but the first time in four years after back-to-back victories in 2012 and 2013.
She clinched the title with a 4-1 victory over Faye Leggett at the Bells Sports Cenrte in Perth, and said afterwards that she was “delighted” following what she described as “a few tough years”.
“Yesterday was the best I’ve played in a while for sure,” Lynda told Shetland News. “I’d say the fact I’d been disappointed in how the last few nationals have gone gave me that extra motivation.”
She made it through the group stages thanks to a 3-1 win over Jenny Yang having lost 3-2 to Leggett. She defeated Rebecca Plaistow in the quarter finals and Gillian Edwards in the semi finals (both 3-0).
She also won the women’s doubles title with partner Plaistow after they defeated Lara Stirling and Rachel Crawford 3-0.
