News / Wind farm liability
THE COUNCIL’S potential liability for £1.9 million from the Viking Energy wind farm project is to be scrutinised by the audit and standards committee.
The committee has now asked for a detailed audit trail to explain how the potential liability had been accumulated.
Some councillors expressed surprise when it emerged a few months ago that the local authority could potentially be liable for a project they do not own.
The council sold its 45 per cent stake in Viking Energy to the Shetland Charitable Trust in 2008.
