Shetland Pride returns with new parade route

SHETLAND Pride will return for its fifth year with a new parade route through Lerwick and a new venue for its Pride Village.

The parade will start at Market Cross as usual on Saturday 13 June at 11am, before continuing along Commercial Street.

However in a change for the festival, the parade will then move along North Road before turning left at Grantfield roundabout on to North Lochside, before finishing up at the Anderson High School grounds.

The Pride Village will this year be held at the Sound Hall until 4pm, and will feature the usual array of local stallholders, bairns’ games, arts and crafts, and food.

Shetland Pride chair Sarah Cooper said they were “really excited to finally share these plans”.

“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make Shetland Pride 2026 a memorable and fun event for everyone,” she said.

“Pride has always been rooted in protest, visibility and solidarity, and we’re proud that this year’s extended parade route allows us to take that message further through the community.”

The Shetland Pride team are still on the lookout for volunteers to help during the event, either to help set up the Pride Village, marshal the parade, or act as a steward during the other events.

Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up by contacting Shetland Pride on social media, or filling in the volunteer sign-up form.

Cooper said: “We are always so grateful to anyone who can volunteer during Pride.

“The day wouldn’t happen without the generosity of people who donate their time so we can put on this incredible event.

“Parade volunteers do have to attend a small training session before the event, but on the day it only takes around two hours of your time.

“It’s an excellent chance to be part of Shetland Pride.”

There will be checkpoints along the parade route for anyone who does not feel they can walk the whole route, and anyone with accessibility needs can contact the event’s accessibility coordinator by emailing this address accessibility@shetlandpride.co.uk.

Tickets for this year’s Shetland Pride evening party at the Sound Hall are £25 (age 18+ only) and available here. The youth party is set to go ahead at the Lerwick Legion, with tickets to be sold on the door for £10.
