News / Hockey: Spurs score season’s first hat tricks

Rosebowl

Spurs 4 v Zetland 0

SPURS set off at a furious pace after winning the toss with a series of attacks leading to the first penalty, but failed to score. Zetland regrouped and fought back, but as Spurs calmed down and started passing the ball around more they set up Morag Fox to win the first goal of the night.
After the half time break Sarah Grogan scored Spurs’ second after on-form goalie Debi Kane saved three attempts from a Morag Fox penalty. Fox missed a third penalty, but Spurs pressed on and set up Grogan for two more goals – the first hat trick of the season.

Player of the match for hard working Zetland was Dawn Anderson, while Gayle Johnson picked up the honours for Spurs.

Gray gained a fourth after the break from one of several short corners, another of which allowed Rona Simpson to hit the back of the net. Scalloway worked hard but failed to get past Nicholson.

Players of the match were Julie Brown for Scalloway and Emma Gray for Spurs.

Delting started the stronger side, but Burra were first to come close to scoring with a shot from Kristan Robertson and kept up the pressure as the first half progressed and were first on the scoreboard thanks to Stacey Laurenson.

A determined Delting were quick on the counter attack and Brenda Leask put one past Burra keeper Caroline Watt to draw level.
