Trondra road re-opens after cyclist dies in crash

A FIFTY-ONE year old cyclist has died following a road traffic collision in Trondra on Saturday night.

The B9074 road was closed in both directions following the crash, which took place at around 10pm last night.

The road re-opened at around 6pm on Sunday night.

Specialist road police travelled up to Shetland from the mainland, arriving around lunchtime.

Police Scotland are appealing for information following the crash, which involved a black Ford Ranger and a cyclist.

The occupants of the Ford were not injured in the incident.

Sergeant Ewan Calder said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and we’ll continue to offer them support.

“I’m appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have any information which could assist our investigation to come forward.”

Anyone who can help is urged to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 3319 of 21 March.
