Letters / Please ensure you take your rubbish home

On 10 November, Shetland News reported that two new peat restoration projects are underway in Shetland.

Two peatland restoration projects get underway

I’ll set aside the obvious point about digging up tons of peat in one place only to restore it in another, but I would like to ask: why was so much rubbish left in the hills near Girlsta, where a previous project took place?

That project was completed several years ago, yet large and small pieces of plastic and other materials can still be found scattered across the area.

Below are some photos I took recently. I hope those responsible for the new peat restoration projects will at least ensure they clean up after themselves.
