Transport / Traffic lights in place after landslip in Weisdale

COUNCIL staff are currently attempting to clear a West Side road following a reported landslip.

The road at the Weisdale Hill was said to be affected by the slip following heavy rain throughout the morning.

Shetland Islands Council said traffic lights and signage would be in place until the road was cleared and safe for traffic again.

There is said to be more than one slip on the hill, including this one at the top – well above the road – which is pictured below.

There were also landslips in the nearby Kergord.

A council spokesperson said the heavy rain has caused standing water on many local roads – drivers are reminded to drive to the weather conditions, slow down and stay safe.

Shetland is currently under a yellow Met Office weather warning for rain until 8pm tonight.
