Emergency services / Coastguard helicopter airlifts passenger from NorthLink ferry

A CHILD in need of medical attention was airlifted from the southbound NorthLink ferry and taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick yesterday evening (Sunday).

The Hjaltland had passed Sumburgh Head when the alarm was raised. The vessel turned around to meet the coastguard search and rescue helicopter.

The sick passenger was airlifted at around 9.20pm and taken to the Clickimin emergency landing site.
