Shetland Seabird Tours boat vandalised in Lerwick Harbour

A POPULAR Shetland sightseeing tour boat has been vandalised and damaged in Lerwick Harbour overnight, with witnesses being sought.

Shetland Seabird Tours sustained around £300 worth of damage between 6pm on Wednesday night and the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

Co-owner Rebecca Nason said that two powder fire extinguishers had been stolen from the Ayda Ruby II and another had been set off aboard, which had left a big mess.

She said that co-owner Phil Harris had to undergo a major clean-up operation this morning before running four full tours today.

“We have reported this theft and vandalism to police and are looking for any witnesses that may have seen activity in the area last night to come forward to us,” Nason said.

“CCTV is also being looked at.

“This is unusual, disappointing behaviour and not what we have come to expect over the 11 years of running the now famous Noss wildlife and photography boat tours.”

The news of the vandalism comes just days after it was announced that Shetland Seabird Tours has been nominated as a double finalist at the Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards.

The business is in the running for both the best visitor attraction and best outdoor or adventure experience awards.
