Fire extinguisher allegedly found in Lerwick lanes after boat vandalism

ONE OF the fire extinguishers stolen from a Shetland sightseeing tour boat last week was allegedly later found in one of the Lerwick lanes.

Shetland Seabird Tours sustained around £300 of damage on Thursday night after two powder fire extinguishers were taken, with another set off aboard.

The tour operator said on Friday that two adult women had been seen on CCTV walking across Victoria Pier and heading straight for the boat at around 11.30pm, before setting off a fire extinguisher on board the boat.

It said they were then seen setting off another behind a pumping station in the car park before walking off.

Shetland Seabird Tours has now said that one of the fire extinguishers was found in Lerwick’s Park Lane in the aftermath.

They have encouraged the person or persons involved to come forward, and said that anyone involved would likely have been seen covered in dry powder.

“This was a premeditated deliberate act of vandalism and theft,” the tour operator said on Friday.

“Anybody else witnessing events in the harbour around 11.30pm last night [Thursday] that may be useful please do get in touch.”

Co-owner Rebecca Nason described the incident as “unusual, disappointing behaviour”, and said it was “not what we have come to expect over the 11 years of running the now famous Noss wildlife and photography boat tours.”

The police are due to speak to Shetland Seabird Tours about the incident this week.
