SHETLAND actor Douglas Henshall says the current sixth series of the BBC One crime drama is “only going to get better”.

Around 6.5 million people tuned into the third episode of the six-part series last week.

Henshall wrote on Twitter: “Thanks to each and every one of you. It’s only going to get better.”

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly also got in on the act – saying on the social networking website that “Shetland itself is glorious” in the series.

Scenes for a seventh series have already been shot in Shetland.

A plaque for Henshall was unveiled outside his character’s lodberry home in Lerwick in October.

This was to recognise the impact the series has had on tourism to Shetland, as well as honouring Henshall.
