Emergency services / Esplanade cordoned off following reports of gas smell
THE CENTRE of Lerwick was closed off for a couple of hours on Tuesday night following reports of a smell of gas in the area.
Three fire appliances, one ambulance, the police and Scottish Water attended at the Esplanade after the call came in at around 6.30pm.
Buildings in the area were evacuated as a precaution, with the roads cordoned off to traffic. There were also restrictions for pedestrians.
Enquiries were focused on Harrison Square.
The road at the Esplanade was re-opened shortly after 9.10pm.
