News / Dean awarded scholarship
A LOCAL engineering firm has awarded its first annual scholarship to Dean Robert Guthrie.
JLO Engineering, run by Joe Leask, worked closely with the Anderson High School to develop a scholarship which would be awarded to a student based on all four capacities within the curriculum for excellence, the Scottish Government’s lifelong learning strategy.
The capacities are put in place to ensure schools aim to develop responsible citizens, confident individuals, effective contributors and successful learners. The scholarship aims to select a candidate based on those capacities and not just focus on a student’s academic capabilities.
Leask said: “Dean scored highly in all areas of the scholarship. He has shown with his grades that he has the academic capacity to do well in further education while also showing confidence, responsibility and contribution to society effectively in his CV and in his interview.”
The scholarship considered final year students who were interested in applying for engineering subjects at university.
It is hoped that other industries will in future enjoy the opportunity to join the scholarship and generate more interest among students. Anyone interested in being involved in the scholarship’s future can contact Leask by emailing jdl4@live.co.uk.
