Letters / Deflecting attention

The day after Sir Malcolm Bruce, the former deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, tried to defend the actions of Alistair Carmichael, blackening all MPs by claiming that everything from “not quite the truth” through to brazen lying in public is widespread among them, Tavish Scott in an attempt to deflect attention from their own misdeeds once again raises the spectre of the SNP’s Alex Salmond lying over EU advice (Tavish backs embattled MP; SN, 27/05/15).

This is a charge of which Alex Salmond was cleared after Sir David Bell investigated five complaints by Labour MEP Catherine Stihler and found that the First Minister had acted in full accordance with the Ministerial code.
