News / Mossbank woman banned
A MOSSBANK woman was disqualified for 16 months at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday after admitting she drove while twice the legal limit for alcohol.
Suzanne Smith, of 1 Leaside, was swerving all over the B9076 at Voxter in the afternoon of 13 May, the court heard.
The 49 year old had caused a collision with another road user, but she was not charged with that offence.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said an alcohol reading could only be taken four hours later, because Smith was taken to hospital as a result of the accident.
Defence agent Chris Dowle said his client was very apologetic for what had happened and was already taking steps to deal with her alcohol problem.
Sheriff Philip Mann told her that she was fortunate nothing more serious had happened.
Smith can reduce the period of disqualification by four months if she successfully completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course. She was also fined £600.
