News / Burradale not for sale
THE OWNERS of Shetland’s Burradale wind farm have quashed rumours that their successful business has been sold to an Italian renewables company.
Internet links were circulating among local industry observers earlier this week which suggested the five turbines outside Lerwick had been sold to Falck Renewables.
The www.thewindpower.net database website lists Burradale as one of many wind farms in Europe owned by the Italian multinational.
However the information is not replicated on Falck Renewable’s own website and a request to the Milan-based company to clarify the situation received no response.
A spokesman for Shetland Aerogenerators, the company that owns and operates the wind farm, said this week that Burradale remained “firmly within the Ward and Thomson families”.
“We receive regular approaches with proposals for purchases of, and investments in, our company, but there are absolutely no plans for any change in ownership,” the spokesman said.
“We will continue to play our part in harnessing Shetland’s exceptional wind resource to help meet energy and climate change challenges, while providing work for several local suppliers.”
He added that the company had asked the operator of the www.thewindpower.net website to correct its erroneous entry.
