SIC recruiting to two new key posts as restructure continues
RECRUITMENT is closing on two new high-ranking posts at Shetland Islands Council (SIC) created through an ongoing management restructure.
The local authority is looking for a director of governance and a director of people and resources/depute chief executive.
The roles have annual salaries of £125,000 and £130,000 respectively, although these figures are pending the outcome of the management review.
The director of governance role would include leading a team to ensure the effective delivery and development of a variety of services from legal and committee to internal audit and digital/technology.
They would also include functions such as procurement, commissioning and contracts and insurance.
The director of people and resources/depute chief executive would oversee services such as finance, human resources and property management services.
As they would be the SIC’s section 95 officer, the statutory chief financial officer role, whoever takes on this role must be a qualified accountant.
The posts having a closing date of today (Monday).
SIC chief executive Maggie Sandison has been leading a restructure of the management within the council, which could save more than £3 million over the next five years.
With some managers retiring, the SIC has been looking at where it can combine some roles instead of filling vacancies, with the aim to streamline some of the council’s processes.
Documents with the two job adverts give an indication of the titles of some new roles within the council.
They include digital and technology manager, and transformation, climate change and waste services manager.
The job adverts for the two new roles comes with a relocation allowance of up to £8,000.
The new structure sees the SIC retain five directorates, but some of the responsibilities under their remit will change.
Some of the areas under the current infrastructure banner are now being brought under a new directorate called ‘place’, such as roads, transport and ports and harbours.
