THE FRASER family from Burra and friend Craig Smith have completed the Nice to Cannes marathon with Karen Fraser running a personal best in the process.
The four long distance runners – Karen, Maurice and Karrie Fraser, and Smith – participated in the French Riveria marathon on Sunday to raise funds for the Shetland Care Attendants Scheme (SCAS).
So far almost £1,000 has been raised through a JustGiving fundraising page.

OCEAN Kinetics will showcase its growing role in the UK’s offshore wind supply chain at the Floating Offshore Wind 2025 in Aberdeen this week.
The company said that with operations spanning Lerwick, Orkney and Aberdeen, it is “ideally placed to deliver complex offshore projects in some of Europe’s harshest marine environments”.
At the event, the company will spotlight its integrated capabilities across fabrication, subsea engineering, diving, ROV operations and marine vessel support.
“Floating offshore wind is set to transform renewable energy in the UK — and we’re proud to be part of that story” said Ocean Kinetics managing director John Henderson.
“Our in-house teams, vessels and fabrication facilities give us the agility and technical strength developers need as projects scale up.”
THE SCOTTISH Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) says decisions on proposed changes to more than 30 stations in the country – including one in Shetland – have been delayed until the new year.
The SFRS is proposing to close the Fetlar fire station, which is dormant and has not been used in years.
Deputy chief officer Andy Watt said the service has been “encouraged by the scale and detail of responses” its nationwide consultation on proposed changes, adding: “It’s essential that we take the necessary time to review and analyse all feedback. This work simply cannot be rushed.”
