The Shetland darts B team who helped complete a county clean sweep on Saturday.

SHETLAND made it an unprecedented clean sweep of darting success on Saturday after the B team beat Orkney in Kirkwall.

Two weeks after the men’s and women’s A teams celebrated a famous home double at the Lerwick Legion, the B team headed south looking to retain the trophy that they won in Shetland last year.

After trailing 5-2 at one point the blues fought back to take the lead, and would eventually seal an 11-9 victory that means all three inter-county darting trophies will remain in the isles until next year.

TWO SWIMMING siblings set new records at junior inter-county trials over the weekend.

Julian and Stella Okroj, who swim for Delting Dolphins, were the record-breaking duo, with Julian breaking the boys’ 13-14 times for 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley.

Stella then broke the 100m backstroke record for 10 year old girls, capping off a brilliant weekend for the pair.

SHETLAND’s footballers retained the Laurenson Cup after a penalty shootout victory over league champions Celtic.

The match is played for between the county side and the previous season’s premier league winners every year, with undefeated champions Celtic the opponents on Saturday.

Shetland took the lead through Scalloway’s Seb Inkster, only for Celtic’s Jack Clubb to level the game with around 10 minutes to go.

That took the tie to penalties, and it was to be another Scalloway player – keeper Rory Henderson – who would be the hero for Shetland.

He stopped two Celtic spot-kicks before stepping up himself to score the winning goal and to seal a 4-3 shootout win for Shetland.

CELTIC will have the chance to make up for that disappointment tonight (Monday) as they start their league title defence against bitter rivals Spurs.

They are aiming to do something they have never done before, which is to win the premier league in successive seasons.

But Spurs, who have won three of the last five league titles, will be eager to put a dent in Celtic’s bid and wrestle the trophy back.

In tonight’s other premier league openers, Whitedale host Whalsay at Strom and Ness welcome Thistle down to Sandwick.

All matches kick off at 6.30pm.

The DITT Reserve League and Jewson Championship got underway last week, and will continue on Wednesday and Friday this week.

Whitedale B – who have won the reserve league without losing a match for the last two seasons – started their campaign with a narrow 3-2 victory over Ness B.

Whalsay B saw off Delting by the same scoreline, with both Thistle B and Spurs B recording 2-0 victories over Celtic B and Scalloway B respectively.

In the newly formed championship it was a perfect start for Shetland football’s newest club side, Southside Impact.

They put four unanswered goals beyond Wastside Rebels to secure victory in their first ever league game.

North Isles also made an impressive start, beating Banks 10-1 in Lerwick, with both Marcus Goodhand and David McMillan helping themselves to hat-tricks.

The final match of the first round saw Bressay Sharks come from behind to beat Ness C 2-1.

The fixtures for Wednesday’s reserve league games see Celtic B host Whitedale B at Clickimin 1, Scalloway B welcome Thistle B to Hamnavoe and Spurs B play Delting at Gilbertson Park, with all games kicking off at 6.30pm.

Whalsay B host Ness at Harbison Park at 7pm.

In the championship on Friday both games will take place in the South Mainland, with Ness C at home to North Isles and Southside Impact welcoming Bressay.

THE HIGHLAND Amateur Cup also returns on Saturday, with the six remaining Shetland sides facing each other in the first round.

There are two all-premier league ties, with Ness United travelling to town to take on Spurs at Gilbertson Park and Whitedale hosting Scalloway at Strom.

Championship side Banks will make the ferry journey out to Whalsay looking to pull off a massive giant-killing in the competition.

All games kick-off at 3pm.

BURRA made it two wins from two in hockey’s Rosebowl league competition after seeing off Delting with the odd goal in five on Thursday night.

The team backed up their opening 3-0 win over Zetland by narrowly beating Delting 3-2 at the Brae astroturf last week.

In the night’s other match, challengers Spurs beat Zetland 4-1 to start their campaign off strongly.

Tonight Whalsay – who started their Rosebowl fixtures with a victory over Juniors – will take on Spurs in Brae, before Delting host Juniors.
