Orkney retain Stuart Cup in junior inter-county
ORKNEY have won the 2026 junior inter-county after victories in athletics and hockey on Sunday.
The reds led 106-86 heading into the final day of competition, after wins in the swimming pool and on the football pitch on Saturday.
A 46-29 win for Shetland on the netball court had dragged the two sides level for a while, giving the blues hope of a first victory in four years.
But Orkney narrowly beat Shetland 1-0 in the hockey today (Sunday) to open up a 111-86 advantage heading into the final event, which was athletics.
Shetland’s athletes produced some top performances in Kirkwall, but Orkney eventually won the final two relay races to seal a 49-48.5 win at the track.
That ensured that the reds keep the Stuart Cup for a fourth successive year.
Orkney Junior Inter-County association gave a “massive well done” to team Shetland for their performances across the weekend.
