Business / Local producers to host food market at the Toll Clock

A modern indoor market with a toyshop named Clocktower, an ice cream parlor called Scoop, and a vintage car display. Brightly lit with decorative ceiling elements and wooden flooring.

LOCAL food producers are holding a market at the Toll Clock Shopping Centre later this week.

The event will run on Friday and Saturday between from 9am and 5.30pm and will give customers the chance to find out more about what is available from food and drink producers themselves.

Stallholders confirmed so far include: Uradale Farm, Doocot Bakery, The Chocolate Box, Blyde Welcome Coffee, Island Larder and MM Yummy Cakes’ macaroons – with more producers still to be confirmed.

There will also be tastings, and Scalloway Meat Company will be participating from its own premises in the Lerwick shopping centre.

The new event comes as the annual Taste of Shetland food festival, usually being held at the end of October, is not being held this year.

Jakob Eunson of Uradale Farm said producers very much appreciated the support of the Toll Clock Shopping Centre and Scoop Wholefoods for organising this event.

“It’s a great opportunity to talk to our customers and tell them more about our meat and how it has been reared,” he said.

Ann Johnson of Scoop Wholefoods added: “We are delighted to have so many of our suppliers take the opportunity to come and meet directly with customers.

“For those that can’t make it along, Scoop will have plenty of local produce including vegetables eggs, salt and oatcakes available in the shop.

“This is such a good time of year to highlight what’s available in Shetland: fresh, seasonal, quality food, with next to no food miles.”

The market will be positioned outside the relocated Post Office at the bottom entrance to the Toll Clock Shopping Centre.
