Community / Watch: sea swimmers flock to Bain’s Beach

BAIN’s Beach in Lerwick was abuzz with a sea swimming bonanza on Sunday afternoon – all in the aid of charity.

The festive themed dip was organised by the ‘wild weemin’ who spent November swimming in the sea in all corners of Shetland to raise money for Cancer Research.

They encouraged any wild swimmers and ‘dippers’ to take part in the event at Bain’s Beach to cap things off – with Santa hats welcomed.

Around 70 people took part and braved the elements, with a big crowd on hand to watch.

Refreshments and live music was put on at the nearby Lerwick Boating Club afterwards, with a raffle also taking place.

The ‘wild weemin’ have raised more than £19,000 so far. Donations can be made here
