THE GILBERT Bain Hospital’s emergency department has been relocated on a temporary basis to enable some essential electrical maintenance work to take place.

The department has moved to the day surgical unit, and it will be open 24/7 with the usual urgent care services available.

Patients are asked to report to the main reception when they arrive and follow the signage to the day surgical unit.

The temporary arrangements were put in place at 6pm yesterday (Thursday), and they will run through to Monday (16 January).

NHS Shetland said in order to ensure it can focus on people who have the greatest need and who are medical emergencies, people are asked to contact NHS Inform or NHS24 for advice where possible.

NHS24 can provide urgent care and mental health advice 24/7 and can be accessed by phoning 111.

Meanwhile a primary care weekend clinic for emergency access to a GP will also be available on Sunday (15 January) between 1pm and 5pm.
