News / Man admits sexually assaulting women
A MAN whose “bizarre and sinister behaviour” saw him sexually assault a number of women in public places around Shetland while recording himself has been warned he will face prison.
Desislav Ivanov, of Grampian Prison, appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Friday to admit eight offences which took place in Lerwick and in Brae between May and August.
The charges include placing his hands on a number of women’s buttocks – as well as pressing his face against one woman’s buttocks and kissing another female’s buttocks – at various locations in Lerwick and Brae, and sexually touching a girl between 13 and 16.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the 24 year old appeared to have a “most unusual form of fetishism” which saw him gain satisfaction from “surreptitiously touching completely unsuspecting females” and recording himself while he did it.
Mackenzie said Ivanov indulged in “bizarre and sinister behaviour” over a period of time.
He added that Sheriff Philip Mann could consider a deportation order on Ivanov during sentencing.
The sheriff said he would defer sentence for social work reports until 22 November, when the procurator fiscal and Ivanov’s defence agent will speak in more detail.
Sheriff Mann warned Ivanov that his offences would “quite likely” lead to a prison sentence and remanded him in custody.
