News / Late night intruder
POLICE in Lerwick were called out recently after receiving a rare report that a cat burglar had struck in the heart of the town.
The burglar had sneaked into The Wine Shop on the town’s Commercial Street when staff were locking up after a busy Saturday night.
But the emergency services were alerted when Smokey, as the intruder was later identified, set off the shop’s alarm system.
Police said charges were not going to be pressed and no report is being sent to the procurator fiscal, despite the fact that Smokey has a lengthy record of entering local properties and accepting treats from neighbours.
