A POLICE visit to a house in Shetland’s south mainland to ask for the TV to be turned down appears to have ended in violence, with one man being held on remand until next week after allegedly attempting to repeatedly bite a policeman.
Two officers turned up at a house at 2 Midgarth, Cunningsburgh, in the early hours of Friday morning to ask its occupant, 42 year old Carol Robertson, to turn the TV down.
However later that day Robertson, who lives at the Midgarth address, appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court along with 37 year old Kelly Ann Ross and 32 year old David Joseph McKinnon.
All three were charged with breaching the peace, though Ross and McKinnon were also charged with assaulting the police officers who attended at the house.
Robertson was charged with shouting and swearing at the police, as well as continuing to operate a TV set after she had been asked to stop.
Ross, who lives at 33 Ladies Drive, Lerwick, was charged with shouting and swearing at the police, kicking one officer on the head, trying to stop him from arresting McKinnon and lashing out and struggling when he tried to put handcuffs on her.
McKinnon, of 26 Hoofields, Lerwick, is charged with shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence towards the police, repeatedly trying to bite one officer on the body and lashing out with his legs and struggling to avoid arrest.
Ross and McKinnon are also charged with committing the offences while on bail.
Honorary sheriff Sandy Cluness continued the cases against all three without plea and released Robertson and Ross on bail.
However he granted a request from acting procurator fiscal Kathryn Gordon to refuse bail for McKinnon, who was remanded in custody.
All three are scheduled to reappear in court next Wednesday.
