News / ‘Lenient’ sentence appeal

THE CROWN Office is to appeal against the sentence in the case of Liam Cromwell who was jailed for 12 months at Lerwick Sheriff Court last month.

A spokesman said the Crown considers the sentence as “unduly lenient”.

On 18 September, 22 year old Cromwell was found guilty of a religiously aggravated assault to severe injury, danger of life and permanent impairment.

The spokesman said: “Following full and careful consideration of all of the facts and circumstances in this case, Crown Counsel instructed that an appeal against sentence should be lodged.

“As proceedings are active it would not be appropriate to comment further.”
