Glasgow band with local connection release new single ahead of Lerwick gig
A GLASGOW-based band with Shetland connections has released a new single inspired by a trip home to the isles.
Big Time, by Hound, offers a “poignant insight” into changing relationships with people and place.
It is the first single to be released from the rock band’s upcoming debut album Another Lifetime in a Different Country, and it comes ahead of a gig in Lerwick this summer.
Drawing on the experience of Shetland-born guitarist, singer and lyricist Zack Manson, Big Time is written about returning to the island with friends in tow and experiencing the newness of a familiar place through the eyes of another.
It also reflects on a romance which has shifted into a comfortable friendship.
When Manson sings ‘I think we’ve found a better way for the two of us’, he could be singing about his ex, or his hometown, or both.
A blurb for the single release says the song tunes into the band’s melodic slacker rock vibe, with a “sparkling seam of romanticism and power-pop hooks”.
The band have returned with a sound reminiscent of Pavement, Teenage Fanclub and Dinosaur Jr., honed during recording sessions at Black Bay Studio in the Outer Hebrides.
Their new album’s ten songs “draw elegant parallels between people and place, and the idea of home as a constant, waiting patiently to welcome us back”. It will be released via Glasgow’s Hand of God label.
Hound first came to Shetland for a gig at the Boppapalooza festival in 2024 before playing Rising North a year later.
The group are set to return to Shetland again this summer to take to the stage at the Thule in Lerwick on Friday 17 July, with support from Distinctly Mediocre and Quantana.
