News / Hopes high for more medals

TEAM SHETLAND could be in line for more medals in the pool on Tuesday evening with many of the isles’ top swimmers qualifying for finals.

Hopes are also high for runner Emma Leask who starts in the final of the women’s 400 metre.

Meanwhile Shetland’s top cyclist Christine Mclean was unsuccessful in defending her Isles of Wight gold medal in the women’s individual time trial.

She came fourth in a time of 57:48.458, half a second behind Susanna Sørensen from the Faroe Islands, who came third, and winner Ann Bowditch, from Guernsey, who completed the time trial in 57:29.660.

Carlos Riise came sixth in the men’s individual time trial in a time of 1:00:53.519.

All eyes however will be on the National Sports Centre pool with Shetland swimmers represented in nine of the eleven finals starting from 9.30pm British time.
