News / More bogus calls
POLICE in Shetland are warning of yet another phone scam, this time targeting Bank of Scotland customers.
A spokesman said: “The bogus caller would telephone the customer claiming to be from the bank and then get the customer to phone back on a genuine Bank of Scotland telephone number.
“The bogus caller would stay on the line and then attempt to obtain personal details from the caller.”
None of the customers provided any personal details.
The spokesman continued: “Police Scotland would like to remind members of the public to continue to be vigilant to these kinds of calls, which are attempts to glean personal information for the perpetrators to access bank accounts.
“You should decline to provide any information and ask to be given a name and telephone number to call them back on.
“You should then verify these details with your bank before re-contacting them. If in doubt do not provide any details.”
