News / Cannabis trial
THE TRIAL of a Shetland man might go ahead without him after he failed to appear at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday morning.
Neil McLaughlin Winters, of 7 Stove Cottages, Walls had previously pled not guilty by letter to a charge of growing cannabis at his home address on 24 January last year.
On Wednesday, Sheriff Philip Mann refrained from issuing an arrest warrant after hearing that the 46 year old was suffering from “significant mobility issues”.
He advised the sheriff clerk to write to Winters warning him that the trial could go ahead without his presence. He will also be told to seek legal advice.
A trial date has been set for 1 May 2013.
