Increased funding for Shetland Women’s Aid a ‘real vote of confidence’
SHETLAND Women’s Aid says it is “absolutely delighted” to have secured £160,000 in funding from the Robertson Trust over the next four years.
CEO Laura Stronach said this represents an increase in annual funding the charity currently receives from the trust.
“At a time when charities and specialist services are facing significant financial pressures, having this longer-term commitment provides valuable stability and security for Shetland Women’s Aid,” she said.
“This award represents an increase on our current annual funding from The Robertson Trust and, importantly, is a real vote of confidence in the work of our organisation and our team.”
The Robertson Trust provides funding for registered charities and constituted community groups that help people and communities in Scotland who are living with poverty and trauma.
Shetland Women’s Aid supports women, children and young people who have experience domestic abuse, helping them to find safety, recover from trauma and rebuild their lives.
Stronach said demand for its services remains high, “so sustainable, longer-term funding like this is incredibly important”.
“It allows us not only to continue providing specialist support, but to plan ahead with greater confidence and focus on ensuring people can access the right support when they need it,” she added.
“We are enormously grateful to The Robertson Trust for continuing to invest in Shetland Women’s Aid, and to our staff, trustees and supporters whose commitment makes this work possible.”
Earlier this month Shetland Women’s Aid launched a new service providing specialist support to women affected by domestic abuse in Shetland as they go through court proceedings.
