SPECSAVERS in Lerwick has launched a new dry eye service after a £34,000 investment.
It can now provide intense pulsed light (ILP) and low level light therapy (LLLT) procedures, which can help improve comfort for customers experiencing dry eye symptoms.
Lerwick is one of the first Specsavers stores in the UK to offer the services.
The procedures use gentle light technology to improve the function of the eyelid glands, which play an important role in keeping the eyes comfortable and hydrated.
Gemma Leask, optometrist director at Specsavers Lerwick, said: “Many people assume dry eyes are simply something they must live with, but untreated dry eye can significantly impact quality of life, comfort and even vision.
“Symptoms can sometimes worsen over time if the underlying cause is not addressed properly.
“If you’re experiencing symptoms of dry eye, it’s important to have them assessed by an optometrist. They can assess the health of the eye and eyelids, identify the root cause of the dry eye problem and recommend the most appropriate procedure plan.”
A COMMUNITY tool library and paint recycling scheme is set to move from Mareel to COPE Ltd.
The scheme will launch from Shetland Home Co on Monday 3 August.
COPE chief executive Steven Coutts said it was a “natural fit” for Shetland Home Co to take over the running of the scheme, given its emphasis on reuse and waste minimisation.
As part of the transition, loans are currently on hold while the transfer of inventory, website and membership database is completed. Existing tool library members will be contacted directly about the transfer.
Shetland Arts chief Graeme Howell thanked everyone who has supported and used the tool library and paint recycling scheme over the past few years.
