New chapter for Miss Sprinkles as ice cream van changes hands

THE DISTINCTIVE pink colour of the Miss Sprinkles ice cream van is back out on the road after the business changed hands.

Hayley Moar, 20, is leading the new operation alongside family friend Isla after the previous owners put it up for sale in March.

Tuesday last week was their first day open, which Hayley said was a “little bit rocky to start with – but everybody was really supportive, so we’re really thankful for that”.

She has also been assisted by her mum Ingrid, who owns the Sound Service Station.

It was earlier this year that the opportunity came up for someone to take on the Miss Sprinkles van.

Hayley said she has “always really loved making food for people”.

“I work at my parents’ shop sometimes and the ice cream machine there, and I really like making ice creams and seeing that smile on people’s faces,” she added.

“But I never really would have thought that we would have taken a plunge into an ice cream van, it’s really a one million a chance – [you] had to take it.”

The new team were assisted by previous owner Lynette Smith on their opening day to help with the transition.

Hayley said they might introduce items like slushes in the future, but for now, the plan is to keep the Miss Sprinkles menu pretty much as it was.

“At the moment we’re going to try to keep it authentic to how the original Miss Sprinkles was run,” she said.

“Everybody loves it the way it was, so why change it?”

The owner of Shetland’s other ice cream van, the long established Mr Stripey, also revealed earlier this year that he was open to enquiries for taking on the business.
