Shetland Pride organisers urgently look for more volunteers
THE ORGANISERS of this month’s Shetland Pride celebrations are calling out for volunteer support, specifically parade marshals.
They warned that the parade would not take place without a sufficient number of marshals.
Shetland Pride chair Sarah Cooper said: “We’ve got less than two weeks to go, and we are still in desperate need for additional marshals to run the parade, and stewards to help at our Pride Village.
“Unfortunately, without enough parade marshals we simply cannot safely run the parade, so we need some community support to help ensure it all goes ahead.”
Parade marshal volunteers are required to attend a short training session prior to the event and must be available on Saturday 13 June from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
“As an incentive this year, all volunteers are entered into a prize draw to win a free return trip on NorthLink Ferries for two people,” Cooper added.
“It’s an excellent way to be part of Shetland Pride, walk with the parade, and enjoy the day. We’d love to hear from anyone who can help.”
There are a range of other volunteering roles also available, including a Pride Village steward, and helping to set up and take down the Pride Village.
The event takes place on Saturday 13 June, kicking off with the parade starting from the Market Cross at 11am. The parade will walk the length of Lerwick before finishing at the Anderson High School.
The Pride Village will be open at the Sound Hall from 12-4pm, featuring local stallholders, food and drink, and kids games alongside arts and crafts.
The event wraps up with two evening parties, one for over 18s at the Sound Hall where tickets are £25, and the youth party at the British Legion for 12-18-year-olds with tickets available on the door for £10.
Anyone interested in volunteering on the day can contact Shetland Pride on Facebook or email sarah.cooper@shetlandpride.co.uk, or fill in this online form.
