Community / Local place plan in the works for Lerwick
RESIDENTS and business owners in Lerwick are being invited to help shape a new local place plan for the town.
A local place plan (LPP) is a set of proposals by a community body about the development and use of land within a given area – in this case the Lerwick Community Council ward boundary.
Lerwick Community Council is holding an initial local place planning event to which all Lerwick residents, business owners and local organisations are invited along to help shape the town’s future through an LPP.
Plans will be available to mark-up and suggest improvements, both in the town centre and the rest of Lerwick.
Among the topics could be areas for areas for conservation of built/natural environment, land or buildings of special value to local community and proposed sites for new homes, or other development.
Other suggested ideas include potential reuse or shared working spaces in derelict buildings, and community renewable energy options.
The drop-in event will take place on Saturday 7 March, from 10am to 12pm, in Room 11 at Islesburgh Community Centre.
Everyone is welcome to attend, with tea and coffee provided, for an informal discussion on what is important to their local community and what folk think should be included in a LPP.
