Weather / Police say ‘do not travel unless absolutely necessary’ due to snow
POLICE have maintained their advice to motorists this morning (Friday) only to travel if absolutely necessary after road conditions across the isles became treacherous due to drifting snow.
Officers said the majority of the sides roads have become impassable.
“Main routes are covered in snow and some areas are single carriageway,” local officers say.
Conditions worsened on Thursday evening, with some stretches of the main A970 described as almost impassable even with a 4×4 pick-up.
Several posts on the Shetland road conditions Facebook page have highlighted how conditions this morning are tough due to drifting snow, with a number of roads blocked.
