Transport / NorthLink sailings affected by gale force winds
NORTHLINK is set to continue operating its passenger lifeline services over coming days albeit with a much-altered timetable.
The avoid the worst of the north westerly gale force winds forecast for Thursday, both ferries will depart earlier than scheduled.
The northbound Hrossey is set to depart from Aberdeen at 2pm this afternoon (Wednesday) will be arriving at Lerwick in the early hours of Thursday.
The departure of the southbound Hjaltland has been brought forward to 4pm to sail to Kirkwall and then Aberdeen where she should arrive on schedule.
Both freight boats have been cancelled.
On Thursday, the northbound Hjaltland will depart from Aberdeen as per timetable, but arrival at Kirkwall is expected to be two hours late. Arrival at Lerwick is likely to be delayed by up to three hours.
Departure of the southbound Hrossey meanwhile is anticipated to be delayed by four hours with an expected arrival time at Aberdeen at around 10am on Friday morning.
Thursday’s freight vessel services are both under review.
A yellow Met Office warning for wind has been issued. Shetland Islands Council said that disruptions to its internal ferry network were likely throughout Thursday.
