Sport / Delight for Lerwick swimming club after nomination for national prize
A LERWICK swimming club has been shortlisted for a national award.
Lerwick Amateur Swimming Club (Lerwick ASC) has been nominated for Swimming Club of the Year by the Scottish Swimming Association.
Chair Inga Geddes said the club’s committee, coaches and swimmers are “delighted” that it has been nominated for a “very prestigious award”.
“Everyone works very hard to be inclusive to all and help improve our swimmers’ performance at all levels from beginners through to Scottish and British levels,” she said.
“The club turned 150 years old in October and we pride ourselves on being a family friendly orientated club who put our members first.
“The winner will be announced at a black tie event in Glasgow in September following a visit from the Scottish Swimming marketing team.”
The club has been shortlisted alongside Heart of Midlothian and Renfrew Baths.
Meanwhile seven Lerwick ASC swimmers are off to the Island Games in Guernsey, along with nine other swimmers from Delting Dolphins and Shetland Hurricanes.
Team Shetland has now arrived in Guernsey after heading south on the NorthLink ferry on Wednesday evening.
