Health / Heart screening bookings to go live
BOOKINGS for free heart screenings for young people this summer go live today (Wednesday) at 4pm.
People aged between 14 and 35 will be able to book for Lerwick through this link.
More than 200 people attended the inaugural heart screening event in Shetland last year, and it is set to return on 3 and 4 June in 2023.
People are advised that if the booking system is showing only ‘0’ on the drop down menu for Lerwick, it means this time is fully booked and that they will need to try another time.
During the booking process people will be asked some basic health and family history questions. The organisers, Shetland Heart Screening, have asked people to make sure they have this information before booking.
The screening will compromise of some health questions and followed by a 12 lead ECG which is an electrical tracing of the heart.
Results will be read by a cardiologist. For extra clarity an echocardiogram can also be done.
If there has been a young (under 35) sudden death in the family, the family is entitled to be screened on the NHS.
Shetland Heart Screening was formed a few years ago and has fundraised to provide screening events in the Lerwick.
