News / Buchan Alpha partners provide community funding
A TOTAL of 17 local charities, community groups and schools have received funding thanks to the companies decommissioning the Buchan Alpha platform in Lerwick.
Veolia and logistics partner Peterson opened up the £10,000 ‘make a difference’ community fund for applications earlier this year.
The Disability Shetland preschool group was one of the biggest winners, receiving £980.
Other recipients included Shetland Junior Football Association, Eid Community Shoppers Bus and Dogs Against Drugs.
Disability Shetland’s Stephanie Bain said the funding will make a “real difference to local people who desperately need a more robust disability service offering during holiday periods when very few exist for this age group of disabled children and their families”.
Central region director for industrial customers at Veolia Ian Williams said the company is “completely committed” to supporting local communities in areas where it works in.
James Johnson, decommissioning manager for Peterson, added that he was “delighted” to continue supporting local causes.
