News / New workboat arrives
A LOCAL boat hire business has taken delivery of a brand new heavy-duty workboat to service not only the salmon farming industry but also the emerging marine renewables sector too.
The BK Marjorie sailed into Lerwick Harbour on Friday morning after having been launched at Southampton shipyard last week.
Owner Gordon Williamson, from Burra, said he was impressed by her performance as she steamed north from the Channel.
Built by Meercat workboats, the BK Marjorie is named after Williamson’s wife, fellow company director Marjorie Williamson.
Powered by two Doosan V158TIH engines producing 480 horsepower each, the 19 metre long workboat has a beam of eight metres and can carry a deck load of up to 80 tonnes.
The vessel will join the company’s other smaller vessel. BK Marine also operates the Foula ferry New Advance.
Williamson said the BK Marjorie was due to start a salmon farming job in Dury Voe on Monday.
