News / Peace and love in Burra
IT SEEMS residents of Burra have hit back after a Nazi banner was put up at a Hamnavoe disco last month – by draping rainbow and peace flags over the island’s bridge.
Those travelling to and from Burra on Friday morning were greeted with a number of colourful flags, including one seemingly promoting different faiths and religions coming together.
Other flags were also spotted around the island, which hit the front page of the Scottish Sun in late May after a Nazi swastika flag was mysteriously put up on stage at a fundraising disco in the Burra Hall before being taken down.
It attracted widespread criticism, including from the hall committee, which said it was “extremely disappointed and shocked” by the stunt.
