LONDON-based Shetland fencing twins Christopher and Stephen Rocks are moving closer to securing their position in the Commonwealth Fencing Championship to be held in Scotland in November.

Last weekend came out on top of a field of 54 fencers in the men’s epee at the Hampshire Open.

Meanwhile in Iceland’s capital Reykjavik, Stephen narrowly lost in the final of the Viking Cup, an international sabre competition, in which he was top seed after the group stage.

Christopher is currently ranked fifth in the men’s epee in Scotland and Stephen is second in the men’s sabre rankings.

Five fencers will be selected for each weapon to represent Scotland in November, with the selection being made this summer.

The brothers, who are both coached by Andy Alderman, have more competitons before the selection takes place.
