News / Nuisance calls protection
Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael has welcomed Ofcom’s publication of information on main services offered by phone companies to allow consumers to protect themselves against nuisance calls and compare any charges that may apply.
The communications regulator has clearly set out charges for services such as caller display, incoming call blocking, anonymous call rejection, last caller identification (1471) and voicemail (1571), across seven landline providers.
It also provides information on what each service does and how it can protect consumers from nuisance calls.
Mr Carmichael said it was “a step in the right direction” in helping people to “make the right choice”.
“I am disappointed that some providers still charge some customers for caller ID services,” he said. “[It] is not a premium service and as such should come as part of the basic service offered by these companies.
“Ofcom [has] highlighted the choices that are available to consumers should they wish to switch to get a better deal.”
