News / Henderson refused bail
A FATHER who denies committing a string of serious motoring offences faces spending the festive period behind bars after being refused bail for a second time.
Thirty two year old Peter Henderson, of Kalliness, Weisdale, has already spent ten days in custody over allegations that he drove dangerously on roads in and around Lerwick on Friday 29 November.
He has pleaded not guilty to charges including driving away from a police car, failing to stop for emergency lights and sirens, driving on the wrong side of the road and driving while disqualified and without any insurance.
Henderson is also accused of hiding from police officers in “hillside vegetation” after crashing the car he was travelling in.
A separate appeal against being refused bail at the High Court on Friday was rejected.
On Monday in Lerwick Sheriff Court, defence agent Tommy Allan said Henderson was “highly motivated to remain out of jail” after spending more than a week in custody.
Allan also said Henderson was concerned about being apart from his ten year old daughter and 15 year old stepson over Christmas.
But sheriff Philip Mann refused the latest request for bail after hearing from procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie that Henderson posed a “substantial and continuing risk to the local community”.
Henderson was remanded in custody, His trial is scheduled to take place on 9 January 2014.
