News / Crewman airlifted
SHETLAND coastguard’s rescue helicopter battled through westerly gales to collect a sick crewman from a drilling rig working for Total west of the isles.
The helicopter left Sumburgh at 1045am on Tuesday and flew 86 miles north west to the West Phoenix rig, which is currently situated north of the Laggan-Tormore field where it has been involved in drilling operations.
The man was lifted aboard the aircraft and flown back top Lerwick where he was taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital at 12.30pm.
