A SMALL metal fabrication business in Shetland is to build a bespoke facility with the help of a £30,000 grant from Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

The new premises at Tingwall will allow Scott Welding and Fabrication to provide high quality steel fabrication services to major clients in the aquaculture industry.

Founded in 2006 and currently operated from a workshop in Whiteness, the business already has a quality reputation with clients in Shetland, mainland Scotland and products distributed to Norway, Chile, Greece and Asia.

Owner Gary Scott said: “This new building will mean the business can provide a more efficient service and allow expansion and handle bigger fabrication jobs.”

The building is expected to be completed in 2014.

David Priest from HIE, added: “The international fishery and aquaculture industry in which Scott Welding and Fabrication already operates is a competitive business for small skilled fabricators.

“Success will be based on a reputation for reliability and quality, and this is something which Gary most definitely possesses.“
